From then on, Jaap worked with acrylic paint on hardboard. To this end, he drew the desired dimensions in advance on the large hardboard, while Paula steadied the swaying board while he was sawing.

Meanwhile, Jaap experienced both highly emotional ups and bitter downs in his relationship with Eva, which eventually resulted in their divorce. Because of the children and the continuity of the boarding house (he prepared the meals), Jaap continued to live in a department of his own until Nelleke and Paula left home after secondary school and moved into rooms.
